Hello and welcome back to another edition of Warriors Weekly. The FIFA World Cup kicked off this past Sunday, but that’s not why we are here is it? Both our men’s and women’s sides were in action, with our 05’s boys side in Cup Final action too! Find out how they got on and more below!

It was a trip to Tayside for our Women’s side this past weekend to take on Dundee West, as they looked to make it 4 wins in a row.

4 wins in a row it would be as the Warriors ran out comfortable 3-0 winners. Lucy Sullivan, who netted her first goal for the club in the 5-0 win against Airdrie, grabbed a brace whilst Jude Connolly would grab the other goal.

The result sees the side sitting 4th but hot on the heels of the teams sitting above them. Just 3 points separate the Warriors from top of the table, although Jack Cameron’s side have played two games extra.

It’s derby day at Ochilview on Sunday as Falkirk are the visitors. The Bairns sit above the Warriors in 3rd but only by goal difference.

Stenhousemuir vs Bonnyrigg Rose

Following a defeat away to Stranraer, it was a return to Ochilview Park as Bonnyrigg Rose were the visitors. The Warriors last league win came against the Rose, where it was a 4-2 win in the country’s capital.

Stephen Swift made 3 changes from the previous week’s starting XI, Adam Brown and Michael Anderson replaced Will Sewell and Ross Forbes outfield, whilst Jay Cantley made his league debut in place of Conor Brennan.

The match would start out pretty evenly, with both teams creating chances. In the 9th minute, a long ball forward caught out the centre back pairing of Crighton and Corbett allowing Kevin Smith to latch on to the loose ball before firing wide of the target.

Just minutes later, Michael Miller slotted the ball through to Matty Yates, but Michael Andrews was alert and done enough to put off the number 10, winning a goal kick.

Following a spell of control from the hosts, Bonnyrigg eventually broke down the right wing, putting in a cross. The cross almost caught out Cantley, who tipped the ball over the bar for the visitors first corner of the afternoon.

In the 37th minute, the Warriors quickly broke from a Bonnyrigg corner, with the trio of Brown, Yates and O’Reilly switching the ball between them to move towards the opposing goal. Matty Yates played the ball in behind the defenders for Adam Brown to rush onto before being brought down in the box, with the referee pointing to the spot.

Adam Brown would step up and slot home from the spot, scoring his second goal of the season, putting the Warriors infront.

The lead would last just moments though. Bradley Barrett was fed the ball in a bit of space, looked up before launching the ball into the top corner of the net, giving Jay Cantley no chance at saving the shot. In the 40th minute, the score was tied at 1-1.

Into the second half and it was the Warriors that created the first chance. Euan O’Reilly found himself with the ball on the left wing before cutting inside and curling a shot towards the goal. Originally, the ball looked like it was going wide before the curl of the ball saw it smash off the post before being cleared by the visitors.

Both sides continued to create chances for the next 15 minutes before Callum Yeats tried to replicate what Bradley Barrett done in the first half. The left half picked up the ball just inside the Rose half before driving forward and firing a shot towards the top corner of the ‘Rigg goal. Michael Andrews would pull out an outstanding save, to deny Yeats his second Warriors’ goal, forcing the ball out for a corner.

With 84 minutes on the clock, Bonnyrigg had a glorious chance to go ahead. A cross played across the face of the Warriors goal, caught out Cantley but George Hunter could only find the outer netting with his sliding chance.

Just a minute later, the ball would fall to Thomas Orr in the box but his chance was deflected away for another corner.

A moment of madness in the Warriors’ defence almost cost the side a point. Corbett was unable to clear the ball away, allowing Kieran Mitchell to nip onto the loose ball before going one on one with Cantley. Many expected to see either the net rustle or Cantley forced into a save but Mitchell fired the ball well wide of the target. Massive let off for the hosts.

The game would finish with both sides taking away a point.

It’s Scottish Cup action this weekend as we make the trip to North Ledge Park to take on Formartine United. The hosts have beaten East Stirlingshire and Carnoustie Panmure to make it this far, whilst the Warriors knocked out East Fife in the previous round.

Saturday’s admission is set at £10/5 with the supporter’s bus leaving Ochilview at 10am, seats are priced at £30/15. Names to Andy McPhate as normal.
