  • Match Report | vs Clyde

Stenhousemuir were well defeated by Clyde at Ochilview as Clyde ran out 6-1 victors.

Gary Naysmith named two changes to the side that drew 2-2 up in Elgin last weekend. Ben Stirling and Edin Lynch dropped out for Ross Meechan and Adam Brown.

The first chance of the game fell to Jordan Allan. It was nice play from Barry Cuddihy to get a yard of space, he cuts back to Allan, but his shot is over Darren Jamieson. The Warriors responded well, Euan O’Reilly earned Stenhousemuir a corner. Matty Aitken rose highest to meet it and forced Brian Kinnear into an excellent save, which he tips onto the bar and over.

The Warriors went ahead in the 23rd minute. Matty Yates played an enticing ball across the box, which Kinnear couldn’t keep a hold of, and Euan O’Reilly was there to tap home from close range.

Clyde responded well equalising on the half hour mark when Liam Scullion fired a free kick through the Stenhousemuir wall to make it 1-1.

Just a minute later Jordan Allan put the visitors ahead. Ross Meechan misjudged the flight of the ball from a Clyde ball and left Allan through against Jamieson, his first effort hit the post, but he fired home the rebound.

The Warriros pushed to get back into the match before half time but were unable to do so. They came out in the second half with the anticipation of getting back into the match but Clyde were able to stop any sort of Stenhousemuir momentum after the restart scoring in the 49th minute. Ross Lyon got to the by-line and fizzed the ball across goal with Martin Rennie getting the all-important touch from close range.

Just six minutes later, Clyde added a fourth with an absolute screamer from Rennie who got his brace. The ball dropped to him 25 yards out, he takes a touch with his left foot then unleashes a fantastic strike into the top corner leaving Jamieson helpless.

If Clyde weren’t already in dreamland, they were 3 minutes later in the 58th minute when they added a fifth. Cammy Ballantyne got on the end of a flick down from Allan and converted from a very tight angle inside the box.

Stenhousemuir, who had made changes, were left in state of shock with wayward passes all over the place and Clyde being first to every ball.

Things got even better for Clyde when they added a sixth on the 70-minute mark, Jordan Allan got his brace. Alex King did well down the left wing and looped in a cross to the back post where Allan was on hand to nod into the net.

Towards the end of the match, Stenhousemuir were able to pick up a little bit and create a few chances with both Bradley Rodden and O’Reilly forcing Kinnear into saves. But at that point the Warriors were just playing for pride.

Stenhousemuir will hope to bounce back from today’s disappointment when they travel to New Dundas Park to take on Bonnyrigg Rose next week.
