  • Match Preview vs St Mirren

The Warriors will face tough opposition this weekend as they face off against St Mirren in league action away from home. St Mirren stormed to a 10-0 win against Giffnock in their last game while the Warriors fell short with a 3-1 loss to Westdyke.

The Warriors find themselves sitting mid table after a couple of poor results and will be desperate to get back to winning ways this weekend. They have only won 4 of their first 8 games and will be disappointed with the start they’ve made.

St Mirren are in a similar position with regards to results, having also picked up 3 losses in their first 8 games, but they sit 2 points ahead of the Warriors in 4th place having picked up 5 wins.

We spoke to first team coach Marc Gilliland to ask if they are feeling pressure to try and get a result after a run of bad results. “To be honest pressure is a privilege. If you aren’t working under pressure and you can’t handle it, then you shouldn’t be at this level.”

The Warriors have now lost 3 games in a row, 2 of which were in the league, and will be keen to try and put that right this weekend against St Mirren. We asked Marc what he was expecting from St Mirren on Sunday.

“They are pretty well organised, and I think that is why they are starting to get results. I believe that if we work harder and remain organised, we can be the better team on the day.”

Concerns over squad depth have plagued the Warriors this season as injuries run through the squad. Sarah Kelly and Leah Jones missed out last week after picking up an injury midweek during a game with their Uni teams. Marc offered an update on that.

“I think Leah is still nursing her injury. Its something that we are going to have to manage with a lot of players playing Uni and club football. Maybe we can try and manage their time a bit better, but it’s nothing that we can’t manage.”

Its hard to look at past results as an indication of future performances due to the fast-paced changes that can occur at this level of football and St Mirren are a side that grown in strength recently. Last time these sides met was in the league last season in which the Warriors won 3-1. They also won 5-1 in the away leg of the same fixture in the league last season.

Eirinn Maguire and Sam Montgomery both scored against St Mirren last season, along with club captain Erin Wilson who scored in both fixtures. She will be hoping she can make it a 3rd time in a row this weekend.

Samantha Montgomery is our player to watch this weekend. Samantha scored 8 goals in 20 games and has started this season with 2 so far. She is one of 2 players that has been involved in every competitive fixture this season, alongside Eirinn Maguire.

The match will kick off at Mossedge Village in Paisley at 3.30pm on Sunday the 23rd of October. Live match updates will be shared on Twitter.
