  • Match Preview: East Fife

Stenhousemuir FC look to kick start their Scottish Cup campaign for 2022/23 as we welcome East Fife to Ochilview for the first time since 2019 when The Fifers left with a 2-0 victory in a League Cup match.

As usual, the website has caught up with Stephen Swift on how he’s prepared the team for our Scottish Cup game.

“We’ve prepared basically the same way as every other week in terms of analysing East Fife. It’s a bit different in terms of the fact that the first quarter is done and we’ve already seen teams. So now, it’s about how they’ve evolved and maybe changed things. East Fife is a team that we know well and it allows us to analysing them and see how they’ve progressed and there’s been changes in terms of their formation, but also with the manager leaving, so we’ll be well aware of all those changes.”

As Swifty mentioned, we’ve seen East Fife up close once already this season, which resulted in a 2-1 win for The Warriors. But what’s the gaffer’s plan to ensure that we replicate that result.

“I think it’s bout being positive in terms of the unbeaten run that we went on and we really have to take positives from that. Although Saturday was disappointing to end that run, but I think there’s been a lot of real positives in that spell. So we’ve just got to try and replicate them and keep doing the things that we’ve been doing well and hopefully that sees us over the line tomorrow.”

We finally asked Swift on how the squad is looking and who’s available for the weekend.

“We thought Callum Yeats was going to be back in contention, but he broke down in training on Thursday night, so he’ll be unavailable and Sean Crighton will be unavailable as well. So we’ll be without 2 defenders again, and that seems to be an area that we’re constantly loosing players. But I’ve always said that I have belief in this squad that whoever steps up to the mark will be more than adequate to do so.”

You only have to go back just over a month since the last meeting between the two sides. Euan O’Reilly came off the bench to score twice as we came from behind to claim all 3 points in the cinch League Two encounter at Methil.

The match will be played to a conclusion with extra time and penalties if required. The winners will enter Monday night’s third round draw which will include all 30 Round 2 winners plus the ten teams from cinch league One.
