A break from league action awaits the Warriors this weekend as they look forward to their first cup game of the season. This week, the Warriors will join round two of the SWF League One and Championship Cup, after receiving a bye in the first round, against Rossvale.
It’s been a while since the Warriors last met Rossvale in a competitive match, the first game of the season last year in the Championship South. That game wasn’t a great match for the Warriors as they lost 7-0 to a rampant Rossvale team, although the Warriors did end the game with 10 players after Chloe Pearson was sent off.
Jack Cameron will be keen to get a better outcome this week, but he approaches this game with a degree of caution.
“We’re expecting a difficult game, they are a good side. They are in the top end of the league above so we know it’ll be a tough match on paper, and we will be considered the underdogs, but it’s a cup game and anything can happen in a one-off match. We will of course respect the fact that they’re a good side, but so are we. We will definitely be going into the game giving everything we’ve got to try to progress into the next round. Once the game starts, its 11 v 11, the same as any other game, and our players will be ready and fully focused.”
Rossvale have been in good form in the league, winning 5 of their first 7 games and finding themselves in 3rd, so they probably head into this match as favourites.
The Warriors on the other hand have been suffering some injuries woes and have a few players out and unavailable for selection. Shantel Paterson, Clare Wilson and Nimi Ahira. The squad will be bolstered by the return of team captain Erin Wilson though who returns after missing last weeks match against Westdyke. A new signing is also expected to be confirmed before the match on game day as one of the recent trialists has put pen to paper and signed up for the season. More will be confirmed before the match.
The player to watch for the Warriors this week is Leah Jones. Leah can play in midfield or defence and if she is available for selection, she plays. Leah spent the start of preseason travelling from Aberdeen to Falkirk multiple times per week, just to attend training or play in friendlies, until she moved back to Glasgow at the start of the Uni year, which showed a level of commitment beyond most at this level of football.
The game kicks off at 2.30pm at Ochilview on Sunday the 9th of October. Match entry will be in exchange for a donation. The game will also be streamed on Warriors TV.
