Harry Glasgow

The Club was saddened to learn of the passing of Harry Glasgow, former player, coach and Manager.

Henry Glasgow was his birth name, but in footballing circles he was always known as Harry Glasgow.  Stella, his wife, upon answering the phone, knew if the caller asked for Harry, then it was a call related to football!

A Stirlingshire lad, Harry played for Falkirk, Arbroath, Clyde and Stenhousemuir in the centre half or full back role.  Signed by then manager Alex Smith in 1972 as a player/coach, Harry always said his most enjoyable game for Stenhousemuir was in the League Cup against Rangers in 1972 at Ibrox, where the team won 2-1, earning him a £25 win bonus!

In 1974/75, Alex Smith left to become Manager of Stirling Albion and the committee without hesitation asked Harry to take the reigns and he became the new club manager.  In his first match as the new gaffer, despite being down two goals, the team fought back to earn a 4-4 draw against St Mirren.

He experienced both good times and bad as Manager and remained in post until 1981, when he himself made the decision to step aside as he felt he couldn't take the club any further and new blood was required.  Harry is remembered as a solid past manager of the club who did remarkably well with the limited finances that were availabe to him.

Harry was the longest serving manager in the club's history, and even after leaving his post, he continued to hold a season ticket and attend all home matches, even when his health started to deteriorate.

Remembered as a lovely man and a gentleman of the first degree by those who knew him, he gave good service to Stenhousemuir over many years and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A minutes silence was held as a mark of respect at the recent match against Dunfermline at Ochilview.

Harry's funeral will take place on 13:45hrs on Friday the 12th February at the Falkirk Crematorium.
