Tryst Community Sports Club and School of Rugby Launch
On the 6th of November Larbert High School Officially Launched the Tryst Community Sports Club and Larbert High School of Rugby.
The day was a huge success with 600 members of the public attending including 400 young people from both the primary and high school.
All 9 clubs delivered taster sessions and performances on the day.
The hub – the Tryst Community Sports Club (TCSC) – was established by Stenhousemuir Football Club and Larbert High School and is the latest CSH to be established.
Community sport hubs are a key part of the Scottish Government’s 2014 Games Legacy plan and the target is to reach 100 CSHs across all of Scotland’s 32 local authorities by 2014.
Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison said:
“It is important that as a nation we become more active and seize the opportunity presented by the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The roll out of community sports hubs is central to our legacy ambitions.
“Today’s launch is recognition of the foresight shown by Stenhousemuir Football Club and Larbert High School in looking to better co-ordinate the provision of sporting and other activities in the local area. Sport can make a significant contribution to society and I am delighted that the hub will also play host to one of the Schools of Rugby supported through the Scottish Government’s CashBack for Communities initiative.
“We now have 37 community sports hubs across 15 local authorities and are well on course to achieve our target of 100 across all of Scotland by 2014.”
sportscotland Chief Executive Stewart Harris added:
“I am delighted that sportscotland has been able to support the development of this hub here in Larbert – a hub conceived and created in the community. It is the continuing involvement of the community that will ensure its lasting success and cement its reputation as one of the area’s gems.
“Getting people more active through sport is such an important objective for our nation’s health and wellbeing. But we recognise that we need to make participation accessible and enjoyable. That is why I am delighted at the range of activities being made available here for local people of all ages.”
Jamie Swinney, Head of Sport at TCSC said:
“We are delighted to be at the forefront of an exciting and innovative community sport project. The hub is well on the way to meeting our targets for year one with nine clubs involved and 350 young people participating.”
Dr Alex Waddell, Falkirk Council’s Convener of Education added:
“We’re very proud of Larbert High School’s achievements as part of this hub in helping to ensure young people have the best sporting opportunities in the future and thanks to their work we’ll see many more talented sportsmen and women representing at the local and hopefully, national levels of competition.”
The TCSC will also host one of Scottish Rugby’s Schools of Rugby, which sees 18 schools benefit from approximately a quarter of a million pounds each year. The money comes from the CashBack for Communities scheme (a Governmental project administered by sportscotland) where the funds are derived from the seized proceeds of crime and offer a catalyst to motivate and develop the participating pupils. It will aim to create an environment where sport makes a significant contribution to the delivery of A Curriculum for Excellence, playing a central role in the life of the school.
Scottish Rugby’s Head of Community Rugby, Colin Thomson, commented:
“Scottish Rugby believes that school sport plays an important role in the education of youngsters. Through the Schools of Rugby initiative we aim to develop youngsters into confident and competent individuals, showing the positive impact sport has on them and on the school communities they come from”.
